There are 9 daily trains going from Prachuap to Bangkok. The slowest ones (called “Rapid” will stop at almost every train station on the way and it will take you more than 6 hours to reach Hua Lamphong Railway Station in Bangkok. The “Special Express” is a bit faster and you can expect to reach your destination within 5 hours. And there’s also an intermediary type of train: the “Express” which will take, as you may have guessed, between 5 and 6 hours to reach Bangkok. Note that Thai trains are frequently late, so your trip might take a bit longer than expected.

The bus station is located on Phitak Chat Road. It’s very small and can be hard to spot: be aware that it’s just next to the big pharmacy and opposite to the 7/11 (see map). It will take you around 5 hours to reach Bangkok and the fare is 200฿. There are now 4 buses a day, leaving prachuap at 9am, 11am, 1pm and 1am. Due to the popularity of minivans, buses are rarely full, so you don’t really need to book.
To go to Bangkok, there are 2 main minivan companies; both are located on Phitak Chat Road (see map). Minivans to Bangkok are leaving every 40 minutes, from 3am to 7:30pm. You should know that minivans can take you to different places in Bangkok, such as Victory Monument or Mo Chit (northern bus station). The best thing to do is to go and tell them where you want to go in Bangkok.The fare is between 200 and 250฿ depending on where you’re going in Bangkok and the ride should take between 4 and 4½ hours.
